2023 AMG C63 Test 4 Cylinder Engine At Nürburgring

The 2023 AMG C63 may be the biggest makeover model ever thanks to an all-new hybrid drivetrain. The familiar Mercedes-AMG V8 is gone and in its place, you’ll find a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine coupled with a clever hybrid system. Mercedes-AMG is serious about its next-generation 2023 AMG C63 and was recently caught testing a disguised prototype at the Nürburgring.
The 2023 AMG C63 ushers in a new era for the team at Mercedes-AMG who used to rely on a large-capacity V8 engine for their C63 sports sedan. The new model will rely on a clean sheet design consisting of a longitudinally mounted version of the M139 turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four found in the CLA45, and a rear-mounted electric motor.
The M139 Inline-4 on the AMG C63 2023 will use an electric turbocharger arrangement, which replaces the conventional arrangement found on the CLA45. This unique e-turbo completely eliminates turbo lag and improves responsiveness when compared to conventional setups. The rear-mounted electric motor supports boosted inline-4 and features a bespoke 2-speed transmission for better high-speed performance.
The combined output of these cutting-edge powertrains is rumored to be above 500 horsepower (372 Kilowatts), but Mercedes-AMG has yet to confirm final figures. We expect the new 2023 AMG C63 to at least match the old car, which hit 503 horsepower with a simpler 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
The new AMG C63 2023 uses the latest in Formula One motorsport technology to improve performance and reduce emissions which is especially appealing to racing fans. Of course, the old 4.0-liter V8 from previous cars will always occupy a special place in Mercedes-AMG history, however, the brand has chosen to adapt to survive.
We look forward to seeing the production-ready AMG C63 2023 later this year where we get a glimpse of the future of the high-powered German sports sedan. This proven sports sedan at the Nürburgring may have a radical drivetrain, but we hope some of the familiar Mercedes-AMG flair remains.
