BMW M3 Tuned With 600 HP Drag Races Stock Porsche 911 Turbo S

The BMW M3 and Porsche 911 Turbo S rank among the best German performance cars available today. Although, Porsche offers a step up in speed but at a higher price. However, the BMW in this race had a Stage 1 tone that somewhat leveled the odds in its favor.

The upgrade to the M3 lifts its output to 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) from the Competition model’s usual 503 hp (375 kW) in the US. Torque rises to 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) versus the factory’s 479 lb-ft (650 Nm). An eight-speed automatic delivers power to both axles. The BMW is rather heavy at 3,924 pounds (1,780 kilograms).

The 911 Turbo S is available, but comes with impressive specs from the factory. The version for the United States offers a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that produces 640 hp (477 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox sends output to all four wheels. This one weighs 3,616 pounds (1,640 kilograms).

In the first drag race, the 911 Turbo S driver reacted slowly to the start, which allowed the tuned M3 to take an early lead. Porsche started to bounce towards the end of the quarter mile but not enough to clinch victory.

For the next race, the man behind the wheel of the 911 Turbo S was on the ball and took off early. The M3 couldn’t keep up, and Porsche took the win.

People run a third drag race to determine the real winner. The 911 Turbo S scored its second win, but the gap between it and the M3 was closer this time around.

For its fastest run, the 911 Turbo S covered the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds. The M3 takes 10.6 seconds to complete that distance.

Next, there are half-mile races from 50 mph (80 kph) in the most comfortable setting. Porsche took the easy win.

They rerun things with the vehicle in manual mode. BMW did better but not enough to win.

Lastly, there is a braking test from 100 mph (161 kph). Porsche stopped at a much shorter distance to deliver another win against BMW.
