Almost every modern car entered the Nurburgring during its development before production began as automakers were constantly trying to make their products better and better. The world’s most demanding track is also a place where enthusiasts can put their ride and their own driving skills to the limit and see how fast they can get around the circuit. You might think old cars, especially those made before World War 2, aren’t as fun as their modern successors, but that’s completely wrong.

New video from Auto Dependence active channel Youtube took us to the Nurburgring to show us a selection of vintage cars circling the legendary track. This video creates a beautiful mix of sound and image and shows some of the best machines from the past century in action. Or, in other words, from the moment the passenger is required to ballast.

From one-seater to two-seater roadsters and more – there’s something for everyone in this video. We struggled to identify all the vehicles (you can leave a note with your favorite vehicle in the comments section below), but we did take a look at cars from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Rolls-Royce, Bugatti and many more.

Around 1:30 minutes, you can see a safety car patiently chasing a vintage car perhaps trying to tell the driver that the vehicle is leaking. And if some of these cars sound a lot like old planes to you, there’s an easy explanation for this phenomenon. Many really old cars use engines that are inspired or very similar to – in some cases even actual – airplane engines. Only in detun for the purposes of four-wheeled land vehicles.

Time travel continues with several cases where there is actual competition between the cars being filmed. At the end of the video, there is even an example of the Locomobile – a rare vehicle that is now over 100 years old. We can’t say the exact model of this vehicle but it is quite possible this vehicle is the loudest in the world. What a great ending to an epic video!
