2023 Audi RS5 Is Faster, Louder, Lower With New Competition Package

The Audi RS5 Coupe and Sportback will be available with a new Competition package for the 2023 model year. Audi expects to start taking orders next month for the package, making the car louder, lower and faster than the standard RS5.

The 2023 RS5 will continue to use Audi’s 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 444 horsepower (331 kilowatts) and the same 442 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque as before. However, the Competition package increases the car’s top speed from the standard 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour) to 180 mph (289 kph). That’s 6 mph more than the previous Dynamic Plus package.

The competition also added a new “RS sports exhaust system” to the RS5, which featured a matte black exhaust and a “more intense sound pattern.” Audi helps channel that sound into the interior by removing nearly 18 pounds of sound insulation between the engine compartment and cab. The company also improved the rear differential and realigned the car’s steering.

The RS5 gearbox shifts slightly faster through eight speeds with the package, and also receives a new adjustable coilover suspension. The suspension lowers the Competition RS5 by 0.4 inches (10 millimeters), and can increase it by another 0.4 inches (10 mm), reducing the car’s ride height by 0.8 inches (20 mm) compared to the regular RS5. Audi also added a stiffer stabilizer while offering Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Inside, Audi adds a sporty feel with pearl Napa front seats and Dinamica with piano black side trim, Alcantara with contrasting red stitching on various components, red accents throughout, and RS matte carbon inlay. On the outside, Audi added a glossy black trim and some matte carbon fiber trim, such as the front splitter, rear diffuser and mirror housings. The RS5 also received a carbon fiber engine cover under the hood.

Audi will offer the same upgrade to the RS4 Avant (below) in the form of the new Competition and Competition Plus packages. Audi will also provide both packages on the RS5 outside the US.

The RS5 Coupe 2023 starts at $76,996 (price includes a destination charge of $1,095), while the RS5 Sportback 2023 has a starting price of $77,295. The Competition Package costs an additional $16,100.
