Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus was in no rush to develop some of its vehicles and instead took them one step at a time. Take the company’s off-road buggy, for example, which was first announced in March 2020 and then massively updated about a year later. Now, 12 months later, there’s finally been an official announcement from the manufacturer regarding the model’s starting price, which most likely means production is about to begin.
Glickenhaus posted on its Facebook page to let the world know the so-called 008 Baja train starts at $100,000 before any options. The company will begin accepting $1,000 deposits as soon as slot reservations when production begins later this year. We don’t know Glickenhaus’ exact plans, though the company promises “more info and new photos” will be coming soon. Also, Glickenhaus is proud to say it will race the Baja 008 in this year’s The Baja 1000 off-road challenge.
This new announcement sounds really exciting and we’re dying to see more buggy photos, even though there’s something that’s left us scratching our heads. Accompanying the announcement on Facebook is an image of the engine and it’s the same rendering we first saw about two years ago. This version of the buggy is different from the one featured in 2021 and we wonder if the 008 Baja really has two variants – one for road and one for racing.
Another mystery surrounding the 008 Baja is what is hidden under the hood. Glickenhaus hasn’t released any specific tech details – we hope this will happen with the next official announcement – but we can tell from the photos that the vehicle has a central driver’s seat and large ground clearance. Big off-road tires, additional LED lights on the front fascia and large suspension articulation will help this buggy become one of the most capable off-roaders on the market. With prices starting at $100,000, it’s not cheap.
