Klaus Zyciora is head of Volkswagen Group Design, and in celebration of World Design Day, he’s showing off a rendering of a VW ID. Buzz pickup. In his Instagram post showing off the truck, he asked: “Should we take it to the next level?” If the response was good enough, maybe something like this would happen one day.
The front of the Zyciora ID. The rendering of the Buzz truck is identical to the standard version of the van. The first notable difference is that there are now traditional hinged second-row doors instead of the sliding units on the production version of the van.
Cargo bed replaces ID. Buzz rear passenger compartment. The skinny taillight wraps around the sides of the body just below the edge of the bed. There is also a ladder near the rear fender which gives easier access to what one is transporting.
ID ideas. Pickup Buzz isn’t as weird as it might seem at first. VW offers several generations of Transporter-based trucks (examples below). The models are even available in so-called Doppelkabine or Doka configurations with four doors and two rows of seats.
VW is preparing to offer several ID variants. buzzing. In addition to the usual vans, the Cargo model is on its way to Europe later this year. The rear cargo area can accommodate 137.7 cubic feet (3,900 liters) of cargo, and its dimensions can accommodate two European-sized pallets. This model can carry a payload of 1,433 pounds (650 kilograms). Tiedowns on the floor and walls allow for securing items.
VW Commercial Vehicles is working on ID. California that turned Buzz into a camper. This version is only available after 2025, and not many details are available about it.
VW Commercial Vehicles will also build an autonomous version of ID. Buzz which will serve as a robotaxi soon in 2025. It will start operating in Hamurg, Germany, first before expanding to other cities in Europe and North America. In concept form, the model has a lidar array on the roof, six smaller lidar units and 11 radar panels.
Identity. Buzz will arrive in the US in 2024. This version will have a longer wheelbase than the version launched in Europe. Other changes to it reportedly include a 111-kilowatt-hour battery pack to increase the range over the 77-kWh package available in the European model.
