The Subaru Outback 2023 with a fresh face and new technology made its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show. The updated model will go on sale this fall. Pricing will be available closer to launch.
All Outback trim levels, with the exception of the Wilderness, have a revised front end. The updated lower fascia includes a pair of circular fog lamps and an inlet for the horizontal bar in between. The grid has the same general shape but has a more pronounced mesh pattern in the center. The redesigned headlights have sharp edges that stick out from the bottom.

Subaru also changed the fender cladding to accentuate its shape behind the wheels. The automaker claims a revised design for these pieces adds more protection to the body.
All Outback 2023 receive the latest version of Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance technology. The camera has a wider field of view, and there is updated software. Models with an available blind spot detection system gain automatic emergency steering that works with pre-collision braking to avoid collisions at speeds less than 50 miles per hour.
Plus, the top-range Touring trim gets a wide-angle mono camera in addition to the dual EyeSight cameras. With this technology, the system has faster detection of pedestrians and bicycles at intersections.
The Outback 2023 continues to be available with the 11.6-inch infotainment system. However, it does get standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The powertrain range for the 2023 Outback remains unchanged. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine makes 182 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 176 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. There’s also a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that makes 260 hp at 5,600 rpm and 277 lb-ft. at 2,000 rpm. A CVT is the only gearbox available.
A minor tweak is that the Onyx-class of the 2023 Outback is available with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-four, in addition to the previous 2.4-liter turbocharged powerplant. This model also gets a standard power moonroof, new black window molding and black 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Wilderness comes with a standard removable cargo area tray.
The Limited trim level gets a 12-way power driver’s seat with two-position memory to replace the previous 10-way adjustment. The heated steering wheel available now has 360 degree heating, not just partial heating.
The top-spec Touring trim receives new black Nappa leather with contrast brown stitching. It also gets a digital rearview mirror with automatic dimming and a compass.
