Alfa Romeo Tonale Crossover Spied In Camouflage Days Before Debut

[ad_1]

Alfa Romeo will reveal the all-new Tonale crossover on February 8, but it’s still in development. The new spy shot, perhaps the last of the long-awaited model, shows the Alfa is still completing some cold-weather testing. Recent photos still show the crossover in camouflage, but the teaser campaign is in full swing, so we might see more with that.

When the new crossover debuts early next month, it will likely have a 1.3-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain under the hood. It’s supposed to make 240 horsepower (179 kilowatts), but nothing’s official until Alfa says so. Other rumors suggest offering smaller, less powerful engines, such as the 130-hp (97-kW) turbo four-cylinder. There may even be diesel and mild hybrid variants.

The Alfa is still well hidden under its camouflage, but the tight wrapper flaunts a curvy design. We expect the Tonale to adapt Stelvio’s styling to smaller vehicles, although it should be sharper and smoother on the new model.

A recent teaser showed off the front end and lighting markings, along with a glimpse of the interior instrument cluster. The new spy shots also reveal a bit of the dashboard, including the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, which isn’t flush with the curved dashboard.

We’ll have our best look at the new Tonale, inside and out, in just a few days. We should have looked at Grecale last year, but suffered two delays, one of which was related to the ongoing chip shortage plaguing the industry. The new Tonale will be placed below Stelvio in the Alfa lineup and give the brand an important entry into a lucrative and popular segment, particularly for luxury tents. The new Tonale went on sale later this year before arriving in the US market shortly after.
