New “Bullitt” Film Will Be Directed By Steven Spielberg

The Ford Mustang has always done car movie cameos since its introduction in the ’60s. But of all his Hollywood cameos, his car chase appearance in “Bullitt” is one of the most memorable. So much so that Ford has created three Mustangs inspired by Frank Bullitt’s horse.

If you’re a fan of the movie, Mustang Bullitt, or Frank Bullitt’s character, we’ve got good news for you. Steven Spielberg is reportedly directing the new “Bullitt” film, according to a report by the entertainment publication, Hollywood deadline.

To clarify, Hollywood deadline reports that the new Bullitt film will not be a remake of the 1968 original. Instead, it will be an original story centered on Frank Bullitt, the main protagonist played by Steve McQueen. Kristie Macosko Krieger will co-produce the film with Spielberg. Academy Award winner Josh Singer will write the script.

To recall, McQueen’s character is a San Francisco Police Department detective on the hunt for the mob boss who killed a witness to a case he was working on. The role is considered a turning point in McQueen’s career, although the car chase scene is considered one of the most iconic car chases in cinema history.

Will we see another iconic car chase scene in the new Bullitt film? More likely, but since this won’t be a remake, it’s still a mystery at this point. Plus, Spielberg is no stranger to car chases, given some of his past works like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Minority Report.”

Source says Hollywood deadline that there is no script at the time of writing and the deal is still being finalized, so we don’t expect a new Bullitt film to come out this year.
